Strategic Plan

Updated August 26, 2024

Message From the Executive Director

Dear HMS and NVC Community,

In August, 2022, we launched our not-for-profit, Harmonic Mediation Society, with the ambitious goal of massively expanding the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) community and empowering this community to sustainably foster social change, turning conflict into harmony worldwide.

Since then, we’ve had a few twists and delays in our journey, and our vision has become clearer with thoughtful planning and reflection.

  1. Thrive Decks:
I planned to offer Thrive Decks, a deck of cards and coaching program that I developed, through HMS as an HMS product. I have decided instead to sell it as my own product, while providing a free perpetual license to HMS to use and give away the attached courses and PDF resources.

This will allow me to invest my personal money into marketing campaigns and to take on financial and sweat-equity investors, and provide them with a return on their investment, which will enable faster growth. Since people who purchase the decks will also be invited into the HMS Facebook support group, this arrangement provides more value to HMS than if HMS owned the decks, because with investment in ads, I can drive more traffic to HMS.

Thrive Decks and the course are complete and ready to sell. Once I have some feedback, testimonials, and case studies, and have confidence in the deck, I will start an advertising campaign.

  2. Harmonic Couples:
We are now in the process of truly launching our first initiative, Harmonic Couples, with the Google Ad Grant bringing new people into the community. We are currently using less than 15% of our $10,000/month grant, and increasing our ad spend weekly. Our plan is that this will soon lead to paid group coaching programs in NVC conflict resolution for couples and opportunities for those trained in NVC mediation to get paid clients. This income will also support paid ads, allowing us to bid on more competitive search terms than the grant limitations allow us to run on ads on.
  3. Mediation Certification Program:
We planned to offer a certification training program in NVC mediation. For now, we are not going to do this. Instead, we will send interested parties to existing courses with certified NVC trainers, who teach similar content. When we have enough demand for mediators, we will offer a self-assessment practicum, where they can get certified to work with our clients. This will make it easier for anyone who has been trained in  NVC mediation to join us, wherever they have been trained.

In the future, it is still likely that we’ll create our own courses, which we will mostly promote outside of the NVC community to bring therapists, coaches, mediators, councillors, and other helping professionals into the NVC community and to bring NVC into these professions.

  4. Supporting NVC Mediators:
If and when we get to the point where we have a large enough community to support multiple mediators, we will also continue with our plan to manage clients, billing, and communication with clients, so the mediators can simply plug in their availability, get clients, show up, and do the work they enjoy.
  5. Other Projects:
All other initiatives are on hold until we have a proven model with what we have so far.
During September and October, I am working full-time for Elections B.C. During this time, I’ll be improving conversions on the Harmonic Couples website. In November, I will start full-time on HMS while also creating advertising campaigns to promote Thrive Decks.

By the end of this year, we will know if this experiment can be successful or not. So far, the indicators are positive.

Our Long-term Vision

We envision a generation of children raised with Nonviolent Communication (NVC) principles will facilitate a world in which conflicts are resolved peacefully, and harmonious coexistence becomes the norm.

In our quest to realize this vision, we understand the crucial role of not just parents, but also educators, policymakers, and community stakeholders in advocating for the integration of NVC and its conflict resolution skills into global school curriculum, making it as fundamental as subjects like reading and writing.

We uphold that the most potent instigator of this advocacy will be the personal transformation experienced by these individuals when NVC principles are applied in their personal and professional lives.

Thus, we’re committed to creating and promoting NVC-based programs that address specific challenges different groups face with practical solutions that provide transformative outcomes, while being passionate about ensuring our programs are accessible to all, irrespective of socio-economic or cultural backgrounds.

Lastly, we are dedicated to continuous improvement and evolution. We will adapt and refine our NVC programs based on feedback, outcomes, and changing societal and technological needs. This commitment will pave the way to our ultimate goal – a future generation raised with NVC consciousness, leading us to a peaceful and understanding world.
