JOHN REEL
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

John Reel is a seasoned strategist with over three decades of experience in designing, developing, managing, and marketing products. He has led diverse teams both in-person and remotely across the globe.

As an early pioneer in the Internet technology space, John has invented multiple software categories and innovative marketing techniques. He has also served as a consultant for many dozens of Internet startups and been a featured speaker at numerous marketing conferences.

Retiring from the tech industry in early 2021, John initially envisioned leading a simpler life working with couples as a certified relationship coach based in Nonviolent Communication (NVC). However, recognizing that the NVC community could greatly benefit from skills in growth and financial sustainability, John founded Harmonic Mediation Society as a not-for-profit social change organization committed to furthering these goals.

JOHN KINYON

John Kinyon is a leading figure in the global Nonviolent Communication (NVC) community, having worked closely with NVC founder Marshall Rosenberg for over a decade. Certified as an NVC trainer since 2000, John holds a B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy and an M.S. in Clinical Psychology. During his doctoral studies, he gained hands-on experience working with individuals and groups at a campus Psychological Clinic and conducted research at the Stress and Anxiety Disorders Institute.

John is also the co-creator of Mediate Your Life, upon which the HMS certification programs are based. With over two decades of experience in mediating conflicts, John has developed and delivered NVC/MYL training programs across the United States as well as in various countries in Europe, Asia, and Australia. His approach provides comprehensive "maps" for navigating both internal and external conflicts across all life situations.

RANA HAUGEN CORE

Rana comes from a diverse, creatively infused background. Beginning as child actor with a many decade career in theater, film and television. Rana combines her background in theater, improvisation, dance, Nonviolent Communication, and mediation to support creative community building and conflict transformation.

Rana has dedicated much of her energy and passion to work within the nonprofit realm. Collaboratively running the Organization “Arts Expand” developing programs combining creative arts and Nonviolent Communication, with programs running in 12 sites throughout Los Angeles, from free clinics, to youth detention centers, with houseless youth and former gang members and other underserved communities.

Rana is a co founder of CTA Wellness, a nonprofit bringing therapeutic support to trauma survivors. Rana consults as a mediator and creative conflict coach with individuals, organizations, communities and families. A consultant at private and public schools, supporting teachers to find alternatives to punishment and helping build cooperative classroom cultures. One of her current joys is sitting on the board and co-creating the curriculum of The blackbird Alliance, a mentoring fellowship for young Woman of color and Allies.

PAUL BEATON

Paul Beaton is an expert on innovation, policy, and technology for sustainability with a focus on the transition to a net-zero economy. He earned his undergraduate qualification biochemistry (UNC Asheville) and post-graduate qualifications in environmental policy and law (Yale). Paul provides policy and strategic advice on sustainability for the public sector.

Previously, he co-founded the U.S. Southeast’s first biofuel company; provided strategic law and policy advice to a U.S. presidential transition team on renewable energy policy, the Ecuadorian Constitutional Congress on enshrining sustainability into the country’s constitution, and heads of state during U.N. climate treaty negotiations. At the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Paul designed policy, regulation, government actions, and private market systems to accelerate innovation in renewable energy technologies by leading diverse teams of experts, Nobel laureates, retired regulators, and Fortune 50 CEOs and CTOs.

A not-for-profit helping people reconcile differences, develop deep mutual understanding, and co-create strategies to care for each other's needs.
